Over the last few months, I have felt the heat which means I am no longer in the mood to go through wardrobes or cupboards to stay organised and productive, however with a box falling out of my winter wardrobe I realised I must tackle these areas! So I have put together a list that motivated me and hopefully will help you make a start on de-cluttering those spaces!

1. Start it as soon as you feel like doing it I’ve often felt like tidying or organising, but have delayed it to the weekend, by which time I’m ‘no longer in the mood’, so it won’t get done. I’d suggest listening to your body, and even if you only have 20 minutes to get started, clear and organise a cupboard, shelf or even just your sock drawer. You’ll likely find motivation in your achievement and want to continue to do more and more. 2. Start in smaller, more manageable areas I think it sometimes feels easier to get started in the places that really feel as if they need a sort out, however, in my experience, it’s actually much better to de-clutter a space that you might not feel needs it. For me, a cupboard like the one filled with scented candles is a good place to start. I find it satisfying to sort, and make sure I still love each and every candle. And if not, I’ll gift it to a friend who I think might like it more than me. 3. Question why you’re de-cluttering Do you want to re-decorate? Have you fallen out of love with your home? Has a loved one passed away and you’re wanting to clear some of their things? Whatever the reason for de-cluttering your home, it’s essential to question your intention and remember it with every piece you’re deciding whether to part with or not. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve not gotten rid of something that I definitely should have. 4. Buy heavy-duty bin bags I tend to buy gardening bags and have one for recycling, one for donating to charity and one for checking if any friends or family may want the items 5. Ask yourself how often you use or ‘enjoy’ each item Much like the earlier point of questioning why you’re decluttering, I think it’s really important to actually think about how useful each thing is to you. There are only so many vases, cushions and other decorative accessories we can have, so what purpose is all of the other ‘stuff’ serving, if not an entirely functional item? 6. A bottle of water...ice cold to hand and play your favourite music Making an occasion of tidying, will make you enjoy it much more and actually make you look forward to an evening of sorting out your home.
